We are a couple of weeks into the New Year.

How are those resolutions going for you?

Christmas came and went. The next week we rang in the New Year. What an exciting time.

The New Year is a time of new beginnings. New hopes are forged. A new future is possible. We can put the old behind us and press on with new enthusiasm for the days ahead.

I quit making New Year’s resolutions a long time ago. I could never keep them more than a few days. If I was determined, they hung around for a few weeks. I know many others who are the same way. How about you?

I believe there are 3 times when resolutions are doomed for failure:

  1. When we start on New Years
  2. When we start on Monday
  3. When we start tomorrow

Change starts in our heart. We want something different. We have a desire. That desire can remain in our heart for a long time, years in fact, yet nothing changes. Our heart tells our mind that it’s time for a change. Still nothing (our mind is wishy-washy that way).

Finally we make up our mind that we are going to change. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Once we resolve to make a change, why wait? Why give our feelings time to change our mind?

In my life, if I wait until New Year’s, Monday, or tomorrow, to make a change, I will probably fail. If I am serious about my resolve I will start today. I will do something to move me; something to encourage me. I will tell someone, I will write it down.

This year I have resolved to get my health back. Not lose weight. Not get skinny. I want to be healthy. I have a plan. I have written it down. I have shared it with others. I am making progress.
